This drawing was an experiment with new shading techniques. I used a reference photo of a female bodybuilder for the pose and added some insect style wings to transform her into a fairy.

I think as fairys go, she is a little too "buff". On my next attempt at a fairy I'll use a model with less muscles and go for more of a "tinkerbell" look.

The special thing about this drawing is definitely the shading. You can see a different shading technique was used than on the other drawings in my gallery. For this drwaing, I used tortillions to blend the graphite from the pencil and create the shadow effects.

I'm pleased with the shading, but not with the drawing in general. The expression on her face looks too blank, so next try, I plan to give the subject a little more of a "care-free" fairy kind of expression.

I used a #2 Black Velvet pencil and #860SB blending tortillions. This drawing wasn't inked, the scan is of the pencil work only. No computer editing or graphic manipulation was used after it was scanned in.
